About us

Equipping Faith Communities to Welcome the Stranger

Diaspora Women Arise strengthens churches, ministries, mosques, synagogues, and other faith-based entities with the leadership, cultural understanding, organizational systems, and practical tools they need to better serve immigrants, refugees, diaspora communities, and other underserved populations.

The Conviction

The Mandate is Already Present in Our Faith

Across faith traditions, we are called to welcome the stranger, care for vulnerable people, and uphold human dignity.

Diaspora Women Arise helps faith-based entities turn that shared conviction into meaningful action.

We are a Christian faith-based nonprofit grounded in the Word of God. We work across faith traditions by beginning where we agree and building the leadership, trust, and organizational capacity needed to serve our communities well.

The Newest Immigrant Principle

“Your faith community is only as strong as it's newest immigrant." ~Teresa Dangwa, DWA Founder

The strength of a faith community is revealed not only by its established programs, experienced leaders, or financial resources, but by the experience of the person who is newest, least connected, and least familiar with the systems around them.

Can that person find welcome?

Can they understand how to access support?

Can they participate meaningfully?

Can they experience dignity, safety, and belonging?

DWA equips faith communities to answer those questions with more than good intentions.

What We Do

WE EQUIP

We strengthen faith-based leaders and organizations through leadership development, governance support, strategic planning, organizational systems, cultural understanding, and sustainability building.

WE CONVENE

We bring faith and community leaders together to build trust, share knowledge, develop partnerships, and create collaborative responses to the needs of immigrants and other underserved populations.

WE DEMONSTRATE

Through The Sanctuary, DWA provides a place of refuge, hope, and restoration for immigrant and displaced women and children while putting our principles of welcome, dignity, and holistic support into practice.

From Sacred Mandate to Sustainable Action

The Sanctuary

The Sanctuary @ DWA provides confidential temporary housing and compassionate, Christ-centered support for immigrant and displaced women and their children experiencing crisis or transition.

The Sanctuary represents more than a program. It is one way DWA lives out the responsibility we encourage other faith communities to embrace: welcoming the stranger and responding to vulnerability with dignity, wisdom, and practical care.

A Place of Refuge, Hope and Restoration

Our Approach

Rooted in Faith. Strengthened Through Collaboration. Expressed in Service.

DWA does not ask people to surrender their distinct beliefs before working together.

We begin where we agree.

We build trust across differences.

We strengthen the organizations closest to the community.

We turn shared conviction into practical, sustainable service.

Invitation

Let's Build Faith Communities Where Everyone Can Belong

Whether your faith-based entity is beginning its immigrant outreach, strengthening an existing ministry, seeking training and technical assistance, or exploring a community partnership, DWA is ready to walk with you.
